2N681

Additional information

2N681 (Stud Version) — Part of the 2N68x–2N69x High-Reliability SCR Family

The 2N681 is a high-reliability silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) in a TO-48 / TO-208AA stud-mount metal package, designed for robust power control and switching in harsh or mission-critical environments. It is part of the 2N68x–2N69x family of reverse-blocking SCRs (2N681–2N692), offering a comprehensive range of voltage ratings and proven reliability for industrial, aerospace, and defense applications.

The 2N681 provides a repetitive peak off-state voltage (V_DRM / V_RRM) of approximately 400 V, an RMS on-state current of 25 A, and a non-repetitive surge current up to 150 A. Devices can be supplied as standard 2N681 or fully qualified to JAN / JANTX standards in accordance with MIL-PRF-19500/108, ensuring long-term performance consistency and reliability.

How It Works

When a positive gate signal is applied, the SCR conducts between the anode and cathode, remaining on until current falls below the holding current — ideal for controlled rectification and switching applications.

Pin Configuration

  • Anode – threaded stud (mount)

  • Cathode – main output lead

  • Gate – control input

Applications

  • Military and aerospace systems

  • Industrial motor drives and control circuits

  • Power conversion and rectification systems

  • Pulse discharge and timing networks

  • High-reliability power supplies

Pros & Cons

Pros: Rugged stud package, excellent thermal dissipation, JAN-qualified reliability, high surge handling.
Cons: Requires moderate gate current, slower than modern MOSFET/IGBT devices.
